GETTING YOUR LICENSE

You must have your license before we can perform the ceremony.  

Applications are accepted in the County Court Office on the 2nd floor of the DeSoto County Courthouse, located at 2535 Highway 51 South in Hernando, Mississippi. Room 200. It takes about 20 minutes and can be obtained right before the ceremony. The Officiant will turn in the final paperwork after the ceremony. 

Applications are accepted Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 4:15 p.m. 

The Clerk's office accepts walk-ins, no appointment necessary.

• The Courthouse is closed on these Holidays and Marriage License can not be Obtained. So keep in mind when planning your  weddings. 
• January - New Years Day and Monday Martin Luther King Jr. Day, / February - Monday Presidents Day / May - Monday Memorial Day / June - June 19th Juneteenth / July 4th and 5th / September - Monday Labor Day / October - Monday Columbus Day /  November - Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday  / December - 24th and 25th Christmas / New Years Eve and New Years Day.

• To obtain a marriage license in DeSoto County, both applicants must appear before the Circuit Clerk. 

• Effective January 13, 2020 the cost of the marriage license increases to $37, we accept cash or card. **Beginning June 1, 2022 there will be a charge to process all credit card transactions.**

• Proof of age is required by both applicants in the form of drivers licenses, ID, passport or birth certificate. 

• There is no blood work or waiting period required and the license does not expire once it has been issued. 

• If either applicant has been married before we must know the date the last marriage ended. If the divorce was within the last 6 months, we must have a copy of the divorce decree. 

• The office only issues the marriage license, the Judges no longer will perform ceremonies in DeSoto County in the courthouse. We are not allowed to perform the ceremony inside the Courthouse so they are performed just outside the Courthouse doors.

Save time and fill out your application before you go. Fill out and print and bring with you and save time. Don't forget to bring the required  proof of identity.

Our wedding ceremonies can take place at the courthouse, parks, homes or venue locations. We also will come to your rehearsal the night before so that everything is perfect for your wedding day.

RAIN

It's raining don't fret we have provisions for that. Although I have yet to have it rain on us. 

But did you know it is good luck for it to rain on your Wedding Day?

Rain on your wedding day is good luck because it signifies that your marriage will last. As you know, a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie – therefore, when you “tie the knot” on a rainy day, your marriage is supposedly just as hard to unravel! We can thank Hindu traditions for this belief.

• Unity: A wet knot is harder to untie than a dry one, so a marriage made in the rain is said to be stronger.

• Adaptability: Rain can test a couple's ability to adapt and face challenges with grace. 
• Abundance: Rain can symbolize abundance in money and joy. 
• Fresh start: Rain can symbolize a fresh start for the couple. 
• Tears: Rain can symbolize the last tears the bride will shed for the rest of her life. 
• Rebirth: Rain can symbolize rebirth as a couple
